Class: 4 - Lesson: 5 Text Document (Save Files, Open Files)

Purpose: To learn to save, open and create a new document, and to use Save As.

  • How to create a folder.
  • How to type text.

    1. Explain the screen layout of the text document.

    1. How do you open and save a file?

    • Open OpenOffice → Text Document.
    • Think of a meaningful name for the file.
    • Go to the toolbar → click Save → select the location where you want to save the document → type the name in the File name box → finally click Save.

  • Teacher Instructions
    1. Use the shortcut keys Ctrl + S, Ctrl + O and Ctrl + N.
    2. While teaching, use the term "file operations" for Open, Save, Close, New File, etc., so that students become familiar with them.
    3. Teachers should explain the multiple save options, for example the "Save As" option.
    4. Teachers should explain to students that there are several ways to carry out file operations.
